Free Landscaping and Gardening Workshops

Learn gardening and landscaping techiques that fit into the adverse Colorado weather conditions. These workshops are free and open to everyone. Dryland Gardening and Plant Select Class - FREEÂ This is a must attend class for all gardening enthusiasts held April 6 at 1 p.m. at Thornton Fire Station #5, Community Room, 14051 Colorado Blvd. Mike Bone, Curator of Steppe Collection at the Denver Botanic Gardens and Plant Explorer will teach about plants that thrive in our climate and are indispensable when creating an enduring, environmentally responsible landscape. Mike will draw upon his professional expertise in Rocky Mountain native and steppe climate plants. Weather permitting, there will be an outdoor demonstration in the Plant Select Water-Wise Garden onsite.

Water-Wise Landscapes and Gardens Workshop - FREE

Want to save water outdoors and have a beautiful landscape? You can! Attend this free workshop April 15 at the Carpenter Recreation Center Multipurpose Room, 11151 Colorado Blvd. 6:30-8 p.m. Topics include planning, improving the soil, creating practical turf areas, efficient irrigation, selecting appropriate plants and grouping plants with similar water needs, mulching and overall good horticultural practices. Carl Wilson, long-time horticulturist, freelance speaker, author and plant consultant will focus on the seven principles of water-wise landscaping and how to incorporate these principles into a home landscape. Each participant in the class will receive a free Thornton water conservation kit.
