United Power Reaches 70,000 Meter Milestone

United Power recently achieved a growth milestone reaching a total of 70,000 electric meters served. United Power is the second largest cooperative in Colorado and, despite slowing in construction, remains among the fastest growing electric cooperatives in the country.

The not-for-profit electric cooperative that serves homes, farms
and businesses along Colorado’s northern Front Range grew
at a pace of about 2 percent last year. A total of 1,393 meters
were added in 2012 to hit the 70,000 meter milestone, which
represents nearly 200,000 cooperative members.

“Every new meter we add to our system represents more than
just a number—that’s another member, or two, to welcome to
the United Power cooperative family,” said Ron Asche, chief
executive officer. “Reaching this milestone 70,000 meters is
a sign of a vital local economy and that is attributed to the
people—our members—working hard to bring it back.”

United Power was incorporated in 1938 with just 110 original
meters and 34 miles of electric line. At the end of 2013, United
Power will begin its 75th anniversary celebration with 70,000 meters.
