Rachel’s Challenge comes to Stuart Middle School

BRIGHTON, COLO. – Rachel’s Challenge, an anti-bullying empowerment program, will come to Stuart Middle School Friday, Jan. 18. The program, created by the father and stepmom of Columbine High School shooting victim Rachel Scott, equips students and adults to combat bullying and allay feelings of isolation and despair by creating a culture of kindness and compassion. A series of events is planned including an all-school assembly, a small group student training and an evening community event where students, parents and community members are invited to attend....

Joint statement from School District 27J and Eagle Ridge Academy regarding police investigation

BRIGHTON, Jan 8, 2013 – In June 2012, irregularities were discovered in the documentation of expenditures from the first two years of the three-year federal start-up grant awarded to Eagle Ridge Academy, a School District 27J charter school. Upon further review, findings from a joint internal investigation of these irregularities were turned over to the Colorado Department of Education and the Brighton Police Department in July 2012 for further investigation....

In 2012, Adams City High School is embroiled in a two-year academic turnaround bid with the State of Colorado Department of Education. If Adams County School District 14 doesn't meet the academic standards of the State of Colorado in 2014 the State will assume full control of the district. At issue are the students, whose efforts and personas, independent of academic rigor and staff, stand firm against the challenge. And as of December, 2012, it's also a decision by the community whether or not the district shall stand. And we're hoping we can start here.

South students to visit pen pals at Eagle View Adult Recreation Center Pen pal program allows students, seniors to connect

BRIGHTON, COLO. – Students from Kim Corliss’ second-grade class at South Elementary will visit their senior pen pals Dec. 12 at Brighton’s Eagle View Adult Recreation Center as part of a yearly program that allows the students to connect with Brighton seniors by writing letters back and forth throughout the school year. As part of the program, the students make a special trip each year to meet and visit with their senior pen pals in person. The program not only allows students and seniors to build an important bond but it gives students the ability to practice friendly letter writing, asking and answering questions and conversation skills....

27J to celebrate completion of pedestrian walkway. District, city leaders to join in ribbon cutting

BRIGHTON, COLO. – School District 27J staff and leaders from the cities of Brighton and Commerce City will gather Wednesday, Dec. 5 to celebrate the completion of a new pedestrian walkway for Prairie View high school and middle school students. The walkway was a collaborative effort between the three entities. The city of Brighton constructed the asphalt path and the city of Commerce City handled the cost of construction. The completion of the walkway, located on a vacant piece of land at the northwest corner of 120th Avenue and Peoria Street, provides a long-needed safe route for students walking to and from school along 120th Avenue....
