27J School District Plans for 3rd High School

School District 27J is looking ahead to the future with the selection of an architect to design the district’s eventual third high school. 27J announced Feb. 20 they had selected DLR Group Architects to guide the design and development of the district’s third comprehensive high school.

Southeast Elementary accepts award banner

BRIGHTON, COLO. – Representatives from Foundations for Great Schools delivered a banner to Southeast Elementary on Friday, Feb. 8, honoring the school as a 2013 Foundations for Great Schools award winner. Southeast was one of 12 metro-Denver schools honored with the award that recognizes and rewards outstanding success among public schools serving high proportions of low-income students. As part of the award, Southeast received a $20,000 grant that will be used to upgrade school technology. Rival high schools team up to support inclusivity with unified game

BRIGHTON, COLO. – The students of Prairie View and Brighton high schools share a friendly rivalry on the court but they will team up to support a common goal Feb. 8: inclusivity. Prior to the Prairie View and Brighton girls and boys basketball teams facing each other, Prairie View student council members will sponsor a unified game where special-needs students from both schools will partner with varsity players. The game will consist of two eight-minute halves with a four-minute intermission and feature all the pomp and spirit of a traditional high school sporting event. The Prairie View Student Council has teamed with Special Olympics: Project Unify and hopes to make this the start of more unified school sporting activities....

Students Learn About Cyber Safety

The First Judicial District Attorney’s Child Sex Offender Internet Investigation (CHEEZO) Unit is bringing its cyber-safety program to Landmark Academy at Reunion, Thursday, Feb. 5, beginning at 9:10 a.m. Students will hear from Cheezo, the Mascot, as well as representatives from the Jackson and Gilpin County District Attorney’s Office about the dos and don’ts of texting and online chatting.
