School District 27J Wellness Fair Activities

January 26, 2012 9:00 a.m. to Noon Prairie View Middle School FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC


§  Flat 14ers Run/Walk starts at 8:00 a.m. Free and open to the public.  No advance registration required. 

§  Rampart Search and Rescue – meet the rescue dogs!  See the Search and Rescue 4-wheelers.  Attend a parent presentation at 10:00 a.m. for information on keeping kids safe from abduction and predators.

§  Donate blood to Bonfils Blood Center.  Appointments are available from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm at the fair, so call Katie Lopez of School District 27J at 303-655-2863 to schedule a time.

§  Get a free Child ID kit to capture fingerprint and DNA information.

§  Ever heard of a walking school bus?  Find out how one could help keep your kids safe on their way to school.

§  Free lead testing of toys, ceramics, cosmetics, etc. by Tri-County Health Department.

§  Don’t miss the healthy cooking demonstration by Chef Mike from Platte Valley Medical Center.

§  Learn how to prevent Carbon Monoxide poisoning with the Brighton Fire Rescue District, and also visit a fire truck.

§  Platte Valley Ambulance and EMS - Meet “PETE” the talking ambulance!  Learn how to save a life with an automated external defibrillator (AED).  Free training session in Hands Only CPR at 11:00 a.m. – you can learn how to save a life!

§  Get the facts about autism from the Autism Society of Colorado, including why early intervention is so important.

§  Find out what’s happening in our county to educate and engage teens in fighting binge drinking and other substance abuse from the Adams County Prevention Partnership.

§  Spin the “Wheel of Misfortune” with READYColorado – are you ready?  Meet Rocky, the Preparedness Pup.

§   Examine the Breathing Lung exhibit showing the health impacts of smoking, courtesy the American Lung Association.

§  Learn how you can be ready to assist your community in an emergency from Brighton CERT.

§  Try on some special glasses available at the 27J Civil Air Patrol Cadet exhibit to experience what it feels like to be impaired by drinking or using drugs.  Be challenged to complete some tasks while wearing the glasses.

§  Receive information on counseling services and behavioral health from Community Reach.

§  Learn about safe canning techniques from the CSU Extension Service.
