Joint statement from School District 27J and Eagle Ridge Academy regarding police investigation

BRIGHTON, Jan 8, 2013 – In June 2012, irregularities were discovered in the documentation of expenditures from the first two years of the three-year federal start-up grant awarded to Eagle Ridge Academy, a School District 27J charter school. Upon further review, findings from a joint internal investigation of these irregularities were turned over to the Colorado Department of Education and the Brighton Police Department in July 2012 for further investigation.

In January 2013, the Colorado Department of Education, administrator of the federal grant money, informed School District 27J they would terminate year 3 of Eagle Ridge’s start-up grant and portions of money from the first two years of the grant would need to be repaid. School District 27J and Eagle Ridge Academy are continuing conversations with the Colorado Department of Education on this matter.
The Brighton Police Department’s investigation into this matter is ongoing.
“In spite of this situation, Eagle Ridge Academy continues to provide its students and community an excellent choice for a superb education. We are confident that we will grow and improve our instructional program well into the future,” said Ben Ploeger, Eagle Ridge Academy’s new Head of School.
“Our commitment throughout this entire investigation has been and will continue to be to do our best to minimize any potential impact on the students and families of Eagle Ridge Academy during this school year,” added School District 27J Superintendent of Schools Dr. Chris Fiedler. “I have the utmost confidence in the current administrative leadership team at Eagle Ridge Academy and their commitment to providing a quality education for all of their students.”
