2013 Community Read Event - Martial Arts Demonstration and Learn About Acupuncture!

TASHCO and the Thornton Arts & Culture Division invite you to join us for the 2013 Community Read series based on the "My Story" theme. We will be exploring the three main cultures found in Adams County (White, Hispanic and Asian) through a series of thoughtful first person books and activities that will help us discover ourselves and learn more about those around us.

The February 6 event is a martial arts demonstration and an opportunity to learn about and experience acupuncture (free).

On Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. at the Thornton Arts & Culture Center, 9209 Dorothy Blvd. from January 16-April 17, we will highlight activities that follow the books recommended by our 2012 Community Read participants. The “My Story” series is a three month series—you can choose to read one or two books each month: (These can be found at Anythink Libraries)

  • Asian culture books: The Good Earth and/or Tallgrass
  • Hispanic culture books: The House on Mango Street and/or Bless Me Ultima
  • White culture books: Racing in the Rain and/or The Glass Castle

We hope that you will join us for all of these events. Most of the programs are free of charge, but there is a fee for the two events featuring food (March 6 and April 10). Please register for these two events by calling 720-977-5885. For a detailed schedule go to www.cityofthornton.net/arts.
