Discover Thornton Community Walk Jan 26

On Saturday, January 26, we will begin the 4th year of this monthly community walk program, as we walk along the Big Dry Creek Trail. We will meet in the parking lot of the Big Dry Creek Park located at 1700 W. 128th Avenue. To get there go west on 128th and go approximately 0.6 miles west of Huron, and the park will be located on your left. (If you get to Zuni street, you have gone about .25 miles too far west.) We will depart promptly at 9 a.m. This walk will be an out and back course that can be 2-6 miles; everyone can walk at his/her own pace and go as far as they feel like on that morning. This trail will include some pavement but mostly granite fines, a softer surface.  Please remember to dress for the weather and wear good walking shoes. If you are interested in participating in the program, but can’t come on January 26, please make sure to send us your email address and we will keep you apprised of the dates, locations and distances for upcoming walks. Please send those inquiries to Discover@cityofthornton.net. The February event will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2013.

This is a monthly fitness program designed to help you develop or maintain a consistent fitness program. City of Thornton Recreation Staff will lead the walks each month, but everyone is encouraged to go at their own pace. These treks will be of varying distances and will explore the many different trails around the community. Come alone or bring your spouse, your neighbors, your children and/or your dog. This is an opportunity to pursue your fitness goals, meet some new people and enjoy the trails in and around Thornton and Adams County.  These walks are free and open to anyone who can physically complete the distance. These are “no frills” events, so bring what you will need (water bottle, pet pick-up bags, etc.)  for the duration of each month’s walk.
