Insurance Basics + Estate Planning Decisions

6:30 p.m. Tues., Jan. 15, Northglenn Recreation Center, 11801 Community Center Drive

The city is hosting these two free community workshops in one evening.

First, Edward Jones Financial Advisor Martha Turner will present “Protecting What’s Important,” a program designed to offer individuals a foundational knowledge of health, disability and life insurance.

Then, Attorney Kerri Klein will talk about estate planning decisions, including what documents are essential and explanations of what the documents do for you.

Travel Film: Alaska

10:30 a.m. Wed., Jan. 16, D.L. Parsons Theatre, 11801 Community Center Drive

Visit moose, people, cities, fishing expeditions, the Marine Highway, receding glaciers and more in a gigantic land that still maintains a mystic aura. The tour guides are professional filmmakers who personally narrate their films. Shows include a 15-minute intermission with refreshments. Cost is $7.50 for adults, $6.50 for seniors and students. Chili Cook-Off

Noon, Fri., Jan. 18, Northglenn Senior Center, 11801 Community Center Drive

Think you make the best chili? As part of the Festive Friday series, enter it in the Northglenn Senior Organization’s 8th Annual Chili Cook-Off! Prize categories for red and green. This event is also a potluck, so bring your chili entry or a complementary side dish. A sign-up list is available at the Northglenn Senior Center. For people ages 55 and over. Youth Trip: Painting and a Movie

9 a.m.-5 p.m. Mon., Jan. 21, meet at the Northglenn Recreation Center, 11801 Community Center Drive

Youth ages 11 to 18 are invited to go to a canvas painting class, have lunch and go to a movie. The cost is $55 for residents, $61 for non-residents. This trip is part of the Recreational Alternative Programming (RAP) series. Call 303-450-8800 or go to www.northglenn.org/recxpress to register.

 

Blackbeard the Pirate Audition

3 p.m. check-in, 4 p.m. audition, Mon., Jan. 21, D.L. Parsons Theatre, 11801 Community Center Drive

Auditions are being held for youth ages 6 to 18 for the Missoula Children’s Theatre’s swashbuckling new musical production of “Blackbeard the Pirate.” Approximately 60 roles are available. In order to audition, participants must attend all rehearsals. The audition will run from 4 to 6 p.m., with the first rehearsal to follow at 6:30 p.m. for those who are cast. Rehearsals will be held through Friday of that week from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Performances will be at 3 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26. Cost is $55, payable only if cast. Senior Book Club: “The Time Traveler’s Wife”

1 p.m. Tues., Jan. 22, Northglenn Senior Center, 11801 Community Center Drive

As part of the Senior Book Club, review this love story about a man with a genetic disorder that causes him to time travel unpredictably, and about his wife, an artist, who has to cope with his frequent absences and dangerous experiences. Women’s Guide to Money + Long Term Health Care

6:30 p.m. Tues., Jan. 22, Northglenn Recreation Center, 11801 Community Center Drive

Learn about two important topics at one time as the city hosts these free workshops.

Martha Turner, an Edward Jones financial advisor, will first talk about how women of all ages can take control of their financial life.

Afterwards will be an introduction to long-term care and Medicare.

Blackbeard the Pirate

3 and 7 p.m. Sat., Jan. 26, D.L. Parsons Theatre, 11801 Community Center Drive

The Missoula Children’s Theatre presents this youth production, where a lazy day at the beach turns into mystery and adventure when the search for Blackbeard the Pirate’s treasure begins. Cost is $7 for students and seniors, $8 for adults. Call 303-450-8800 for more information.

 

Coffee with the Mayor

8:30 a.m. Mon., Jan. 28, Atlanta Bread in the Northglenn Marketplace

Coffee with the Mayor is a chance to talk directly with the mayor about issues in the community and to learn about new developments in the city. Call 303-450-8713 for more information. Northglenn High School Principal Dr. Mary Lindimore will talk about the school’s STEM expansion.

 

Scrapbooking

1 p.m. Mon., Jan. 28, Northglenn Senior Center, 11801 Community Center Drive

Bring pictures and stories while joining everyone for this ongoing activity in the upcoming year. Scrapbooking supplies will be provided, but feel free to bring your own. This activity will continue on the fourth Monday of every month. For people ages 55 and over. Call 303-450-8801 for more information.
