Thornton Shooting Update

***UPDATE 02-25-13*** The victim in this incident is still being medically treated for the injuries sustained during the shooting. Clarification was made that the victim is a 45 year old male. The male that was placed into custody was identified as 38 year old Mario Oliveros out of Denver. He was arrested without incident in the 9100 block of Gale Boulevard and has since been taken to the Adams County Detention Facility. Investigators will file charges with the Adams County District Attorney’s Office later this week. On February 24, 2013 at approximately 1:30 AM, Thornton Police Officers were dispatched to a report of a disturbance where shots were fired at Chamucos Bar located in the 8600 block of Washington Street.
Officers found a 40 year old male at that location that sustained a gunshot wound. The male was transported to the hospital for medical treatment for serious injuries.
Officers were able to establish that there was an altercation inside the bar which included a group of three males and two females. As that group was escorted out of the bar, one person pulled out a weapon and fired shots inside the bar. They then fled the scene.
Further investigation into the incident provided leads to identify the person involved in the shooting. A possible location for the shooter was obtained in the 9100 block of Gale Blvd. That area was contained by officers as investigators attempted to obtain a search warrant. One male was later placed into custody for further investigation of the shooting.
