Adams County Sheriff Explorers -- A Day in the Life
Saturday, November 10, 2012. Brighton, CO., Applebees. The Adams County Sheriff's Department Explorers is about many things but today in Brighton, they were about waiting tables and helping add a new dimension atop the "to serve..." mantra of law enforcement.
It all happened inside the Brighton Applebees Restaurant this. From kitchen to tableside, Adams County's future's finest served up pancakes, sausage, and hashbrowns
while raising funds and bringing community awareness to their cause.
Sergean Susan Nielsen of the Adams County Sheriff's Department manages the Explorers program which currently has 15 enrolled candidates including the Explorers' own
Captain, Sierra Sandoval. Each of the Explorers learn community skills along with law enforcement training which will assist them in their future careers.
Twice yearly, the candidates have the opportunity to participate in competitions with other national Explorers' chapters. According to Sergeant Nielsen, "The Explorer's Program is a
great mentorship program," which enrolls candidates in the age range of 14 to 21 and offers a graduation ceremony along with program completion certification.
