Early Morning Injury Accident on I-76
On Saturday, September 29, 2012 at about 4:05 am Brighton Officers were dispatched to a three vehicle injury accident on eastbound I-76 at the E-470 overpass.
A Nissan four-door sedan with two occupants left the roadway and struck the right shoulder guard rail, became airborne and landed on its roof in the marsh below the I-76 bridge. The accident caused the guard rail to peel back and lay across the #2 lane, blocking the lane and causing a hazard for traffic. Both occupants suffered minor injuries.
A semi tractor trailer pulled up to the scene and stopped in the #2 lane to keep traffic from striking the guard rail. While the driver was on the phone reporting the accident, a four-door Kia partially impacted the rear trailer of the semi truck. The KIA driver’s side front wheel, doors, door posts and roof posts were separated from the vehicle opening up the entire driver’s side. The 29 year old female driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, was ejected and unresponsive. The female was air lifted to an area hospital
The driver of the Nissan, Valen Fisher, was taken to an area hospital and was later released with a summons for DUI and careless driving causing injury. Fisher is a 23 year old Brighton resident.
Commerce City PD and CDOT responded and assisted with traffic control. The eastbound lanes of I-76 were closed for about two hours.
