City of Brighton Police Blotter: Week ending 08/24/12
On Thursday, August 16 at 5:05 p.m., Sergeant Mark Kohn and Officer Levy Slagle were in the patrol room of the Police Department familiarizing themselves with the newly installed surveillance system and various camera views throughout the city’s facilities.
While viewing Aragon Skate Park Sergeant Kohn
zoomed the camera in on a vehicle and observed two teenage males smoking
from what appeared to be a marihuana pipe while seated inside the vehicle.
Officer Rudy Underwood was sent to the park and contacted the males. Officer
Underwood recovered the marihuana pipe and cited the males with a ticket to
appear at municipal court.
On Friday, August 17, Brighton Municipal Court held a motions hearing
requested by Dre’s owner. The hearing was to determine if Dre could be moved
from the Brighton Shelter to another location chosen by the owner. Judge
Hardesty granted the motion and Dre was relocated to a facility outside of
Brighton. Judge Hardesty established orders which had to be abided by. Animal
Control at the new foster home was notified to contact Brighton Animal Control
if any there are problems with Dre. On Wednesday, August 15, John Bradley,
Brighton PD Spokesman, issued a press release to clear up misconceptions which
were being circulated by Dre’s owner. The press release contained information
such as Brighton does not have legislation which prohibits particular breeds; Dre
does have a previous history of biting a person. Brighton staff have been feeding
Dre the food provided by the owner. The final disposition of Dre is determined
by the Municipal Court.
From August 20 –28, Sergeant Keenan Waters and Corporal Andrew Hadley

school year. Day shift officers are assigned to each Public School and Charter
School during drop off and pick up times. The first week of the plan focuses on
educating the motorists through warnings. The second week will be focused on
enforcement of the speed zone and pedestrian right of way.
Sgt Mark Kohn’s promotional ceremony was postponed until Wednesday,
August 29 at 3:30 p.m. The ceremony will be held in the Police Department
