Subject: Double Fatal Traffic Accident – 14300 Block Northbound I-25
On 08-15-2012, at approximately 2:15 pm, Thornton Police Officers were dispatched to a single vehicle injury accident in the 14300 Block of I-25. Preliminary investigation indicates that a 2007 Toyota Prius was traveling northbound in the 14300 block of I-25 when the vehicle ran off the right side of the highway striking a concrete drainage ditch located in the median between the highway and the 144th Avenue off-ramp.
Witnesses stated that the vehicle was partially submerged in water. Several good Samaritans hooked a chain to a pick-up truck and attempted to rescue the victims by pulling the vehicle out of the water. An adult male driver and an adult female were pronounced decreased at the scene. Both occupants were wearing their seatbelts. Drugs and alcohol are not suspected at this time.
The identity of the victims is pending positive identification by the Adams County Coroners Office, and notification of next of kin.
The accident remains under active investigation by the Thornton Police Department Traffic Unit.
