Reel History - A Free Film and Discussion Series - October 3

Join us for a FREE film series that explores popular film movements in each of the decades from the 1930s to the 2000s. Each film will be followed by a discussion on the cultural and historical influences that made these genres so popular in their day. The next movie theme is musical (1950s), Singing in the Rain with Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds. More of the Same. The very hot summer of 2012 continued in August with an average temperature of 75 degrees, according to the National Climatic Data Center, 2.5 degrees above normal. This made August 2012 the fifth warmest August on record as well as the fourth driest, with a mere 0.11 inches of precipitation, 1.58 inches below the normal of 1.68 inches. There were twenty days in which the temperature exceeded 90 degrees with four days hitting the month’s high of 98 degrees....

Learn about the environment at Ecofair Sept. 22

The City of Brighton will host Ecofair 2012 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. 09/22/12 at the Brighton Cultural Center, located at 300 Strong Street in Brighton. The event is a great opportunity to recycle computers, cell phones, athletic shoes (no cleats), printer cartridges, eyeglasses and paper(3 boxes or large trash bag per person). More than 30 information booths, art and movies in the Armory and activities for the whole family will be on hand (bounce house, face painting, balloon tying, alpaca petting zoo, crafts and a dance stage). Come and learn about the state of the environment, energy conservation, and alternative energy....
