The Dumb Friends League on Quebec Street stopped taking in dogs from the public Saturday because of an illness affecting the shelter. The temporary suspension was set in place following 12 cases of dogs with pneumonia since April 12. Dogs at the shelter will not be up for adoption for at least 30 days to ensure containment of the illness. (For complete article see below)

This poor little dog had been running the streets of Commerce City for several months before he was caught and brought to the shelter by a good Samaritan. He had been seen dodging traffic and scavenging from garbage cans. We believe he was hit by a car and that is how his jaw became broken.He’s obviously had a rough start since he is only about a year old. The shelter felt we had to give this poor little guy a chance. Blue had serious surgery to fix his broken jaw on 11/15/12. The surgery cost $1400. The medical budget for each animal is only $50. We are relying on donations from the public to cover the cost. Every little bit helps, even just a few dollars. ...
